How to test a toilet for leaks

1. Check first that the water is not escaping through the overflow pipe. This is the pipe in the middle of the cistern (tank)
2. If water is getting into the overflow pipe, adjust the toilet float valve until the water level is approximately 2.5cm below the top of the overflow tube.
3. Place a few drops of food colouring into the cistern to test the flush valve mechanism.
4. Wait 15 minutes and check the tank again. If the water in the bowl has changed colour, the ball or flapper is leaking and must be replaced.

How to keep your showerhead clean

Mineral deposits from water can collect inside your showerhead, causing an uneven spray. To clean:

1. Using an adjustable wrench or pliers, unscrew the showerhead swivel ball nut, applying masking tape or a cloth to the jaws of the tool to prevent scratching of the shower head’s metal finish.
2. Unscrew the collar nut from the showerhead & remove it.
3. Clean outlet and inlet holes of the showerhead using a thin instrument such as a wire, or wire brush.
4. Flush head with clean water. Overnight soaking of the showerhead in vinegar can dissolve hard mineral deposits.
5. Reassemble showerhead.
